Welcome to Cuban Film and Cultural Festival

We would like to invite you to attend Kingston's first Cuban film festival-- a weeklong celebration of Cuban film starting on Friday, February 2nd with an opening gala, comprising a feature film, a presentation by the Cuban Ambassador, Cuban music and dance.

This festival is a collaborative effort by Studies in National and International Development (SNID) and Development Studies at Queen's University, and the Kingston chapter of the Canadian-Cuban Friendship Association (CCFA-Kingston) working in close association with the Cuban Embassy. Occurring as it does during International Development Week, it provides not only the student population but also the wider Kingston community with an opportunity to view some of Cuba's remarkable achievements in film and to discuss and ponder some important development issues.

Cuban fiction films have little in common with the Hollywood variety! Often open-ended and concentrating on process rather than product, they want to stimulate their audience to think about what they see, to encourage a critical response and debate in the audience. Others run the gamut from warm comedy-romances to hilarious satires.

    See you at the movies...
