Research Areas

  • Sociology of Law & Corporate Crime
  • Feminism & the Criminal Justice System
  • Social Control, Punishment
  • Punitiveness & Modernity

My major research interests lie in the intersection between knowledge, punishment and law. I have applied this in several substantive areas, in studies examining the poisoned water disaster in Walkerton, Ontario, the reception of knowledge claims on corporate crime, and the constitution of the punishable woman. In a more modernist vein, I am involved (with Wendy Craig, Jennifer Connolly and Debra Peplar) in a SSHRCC funded study on the use of violent media by teens, and its relation to behaviours such as assault and bullying.
