Spanish and Latin American Studies Degree Program - SLAS
The Department of Spanish and Italian offers a special field concentration (SPF) in Spanish and Latin American Studies with a primary concentration in Spanish. The SPF is open to students who are enrolled in a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) program.
The SPF consists of 14.0 credits, described below, and 5.0 elective credits to a total of 19.0. It is made up as follows:
- 8.0 credits from those acceptable for the major concentration in Spanish, including all of SPAN 251 (or SPAN 250 or SPAN 252) and SPAN 306*, as well as one of SPAN 354*, SPAN 456* or SPAN 458*.Credits from the major concentration in Spanish other than the required 8.0 can count toward the SPF requirements as long as the 8.0 credits in Spanish have been earned.
- Options to a total of 14.0 credits from the following: DEVS 100, DEVS 310*; ECON 110, ECON 239*; GPHY 101*, GPHY 257*, GPHY 258*, GPHY 327*, GPHY 365*; HIST 285*, HIST 286*, HIST 346, HIST 461*, HIST 462*; POLS 342*, POLS 367*, POLS 442*, POLS 467*; SOCY 122, SOCY 225*, SOCY 233; WMNS 212*, WMNS 330*.
In order to take prerequisites into account, students are advised to consult the
Department of Spanish and Italian’s SLAS Coordinator, as well as an advisor in the other department(s) concerned,
to discuss how best to structure their programs.
Due to the changing nature of some courses' content, students should check with the Coordinator when choosing their courses for a given year.
