Spanish Language and Literature

The Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures offers Spanish language courses as well as Minor, Medial and Major Plans in Spanish Language and Literature, or aMinorin Spanish Latin American Studies.

Spanish language courses will enhance a student's concentration by providing them with a beginning- to- advanced knowledge of the language, along with an introduction to Spain and Latin America's culture, history and a glimpse of their everyday life.

A Plan in Spanish will provide students with:

• Minor:  SPAN-Y: an intermediate competency in Spanish language, along with courses in literature, culture and film; SLAS-Y:  an intermediate competency in Spanish language, along with courses with Latin American content.
• Medial:  an advanced competency in Spanish language, along with courses in literature, culture and film.
• Major:  fluency in Spanish language, courses in literature, culture, and film, and preparation for applying for higher education (e.g., Master's program) and greater employment opportunities.

The Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures also offers an Introduction to Semiotics and Communication (IDIS-200) which introduces students to the literary and linguistic fields as well as communication through to theatre, cinema, art, and media.
