ABSTRACT:

A recent survey of Deputy Ministers and Chief Administrative Officers in Canada revealed some disturbing trends in the Public Sector around the recruitment, retention and training of new public sector professionals as the pressures for accountability mount. This talk presents and analyzes responses around these themes from the Canadian survey in comparison with the responses of the DMs and CAOs in Australia and New Zealand gathered through parallel surveys.  While the responses highlight key challenges for the three countries, they also demonstrate the resiliency of the public sector leaders, particularly in Canada.
