Professor, Department of Family Medicine, and Director of Medical Education, Queen's University

Dr. Geoff Hodgetts is a Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at Queen's University where he is the Director of Medical Education. From 1995 to 2010 he was Director of the Queen's University Family Medicine Development Program in Bosnia and Herzegovina, a large health sector reform project funded by CIDA and the World Bank. Because of his experience working in conflict and post-conflict countries, since 2007 he has served as the Senior Health Advisor to the Afghanistan Pakistan Task Force of CIDA, conducting assessment missions to Kabul, Kandahar and northern Afghanistan. For the past four years he has also acted as an Afghanistan health sector expert for NATO Headquarters in Europe. While these experiences have taken him far from his previous life as a small town family doctor, he has been able to apply the guiding principles of primary health care to innovative approaches to health education and capacity building in these complex environments.
