Dr. Riehl has been the director of the Strathy Language Unit since August 2010. Her research interests in Canadian English include varieties of spoken English and the relationship between English and Canada's other languages. In addition to directing the unit, Dr. Riehl teaches courses in the Linguistics Program.
Beyond Canadian English, Dr. Riehl's interests include the phonology-phonetics interface, Austronesian languages, and endangered language documentation. She has conducted fieldwork on minority languages in Indonesia and Vanuatu (South Pacific).
Dr. Hall has worked for the unit in various capacities since 2005. In addition to managing the administrative aspects of the unit's operation, she oversees the Strathy Corpus of Canadian English.
The Strathy Language Unit greatly benefits from the contributions of student employees and volunteers. Please contact us and ask how you can be involved!
