Welcome to a new community of readers and thinkers at Queen’s!
The book selected for this year's Common Reading Program will be sent to all incoming students. Students will be invited to read the book, participate in an Orientation Week discussion group and enter a creative writing contest on a related theme. The author of the book will be invited to speak at Queen's.
The book selected should encourage critical reading, thinking and discussion with other students and faculty and should touch on one or more of the following themes:
1 – What genre of book would you recommend for the incoming class (fiction, non-fiction, poetry, biography or memoir, novel, short stories, historical, etc.)?
2 – What major themes do you think would be of interest to the incoming class?
3 – Do you have a specific book title and author you would suggest for a common reading experience?
Thanks for your input!
If you are a first-year, full-time student coming to Queen’s this fall, we invite you to join us as we read a common book and use it as a springboard for lively, interesting, and thoughtful discussion. It’s a great way to meet classmates and others in the Queen’s community, prepare for the transition to university, and keep your academic skills sharp over the summer.
