Rhodes Scholarship Application Process

The deadline for applications for the Rhodes Scholarship 2017 will be established by Rhodes in June 2016.

All applicants must be endorsed by their post-secondary institution.Applicants must apply for endorsement to Queen's before they can submit their application to Rhodes.

Internal Rhodes applications to Queen's University will be due in September 2016. The deadline will be set once the Rhodes timeline is established by Rhodes in June 2016. Information about the internal Rhodes application to Queen's will be available from Career Services in June 2016.

The materials that candidates must submit to the internal Rhodes competition at Queen's University are almost exactly the same as those required for the Canadian Rhodes Scholarship.  Read the 2016 Rhodes Memorandum for Canada for details about the national Rhodes scholarship application. The only difference is that Queen's requires a list of references (names and titles), and not the reference letters.

Applicants are encouraged to start their application over the summer.

Application Process and Institutional Endorsement

All Queen's students wishing to apply for the Rhodes Scholarship must receive an institutional endorsement from the Principal.

Institutional endorsements are decided through an internal screening process which takes place each year in September.

All applications to be considered by Queen's internal selection committee must be submitted by a deadline (usually early-mid September) that will be established by the university in June 2016 once Rhodes sets its timeline. Applicants are strongly encouraged to start on their application over the summer.

The internal Queen's selection committee will meet in September 2016 to review applications. All successful students will be notified immediately. If your application has been successful, you will receive an authorization code from the university that allows you to submit your application to Rhodes. The university's endorsement letter will be sent directly by Queen's to the provincial Rhodes secretary.
