Awards for Faculty of Education Students

The following awards have been made available thanks to the generosity of Queen's donors.    

Students who are currently registered at Queen's University can apply for the following awards. Students will be notified by either the Student Awards Office or their Faculty if they have been selected for an award. 

Please pay close attention to the application instructions and deadlines.

Bamji International Practicum Placement Award

Established in November 2004 by Dr. Pervez (Perry) and Mrs. Annamaria Bamji to promote goodwill and understanding amongst students participating in international study. Awarded on the basis of financial need and academic achievement to support a final year full-time Concurrent Education student in the Faculty of Education, wishing to broaden their studies in the international environment through and alternative placement. The award may be used for travel expenses, living expenses, and academic fees payable to Queen's University and to other academic institutions in connection with the studies undertaken. The application process consists of two stages: 1) a financial statement submitted in September to Student Awards to determine eligibility 2) a proposal and application submitted in November to the Placement Office, Faculty of Education. At the end of their international practicum placement, award recipients are expected submit a report or paper outlining the results of their studies abroad.

Charles Martyn Elliott and Kathleen Mead Elliott Award for Travel Fellowships in Education

Established in memory of Charles Martyn Elliott (Arts '44, and the first Superintendent of Schools in the City of Oshawa) and Kathleen Mead Elliott (Arts '42, and a member of the executive of the Queen's Summer School Association) by a bequest from the estate of Kathleen Mead Elliott. Elliott Travel Fellowships for study outside Canada in the field of teacher education, pedagogy, or a related field are awarded to students enrolled in the Faculty of Education. In order to be eligible for this award, applicants must demonstrate financial need. Fellowships may be used for travel expenses, living expenses, and academic fees payable to Queen's University and to other academic institutions in connection with the studies undertaken. The application process consists of two stages: 1) a financial statement submitted in September to Student Awards to determine eligibility 2) a proposal and application submitted in November to the Placement Office, Faculty of Education. Preference is given for small budget, high impact proposals. At the end of their international practicum placement, award recipients are expected submit a report or paper outlining the results of their studies abroad.

Upitis International Study Award

Awarded annually to full-time students in teacher education and graduate programs enrolled in any Faculty of Education program wishing to broaden their studies in the international environment through an alternative placement. Awarded on the basis of financial need, academic achievement and involvement in extra curricular activities, preferably volunteer work for humanitarian causes. The application process consists of two stages: 1) a financial statement submitted in September to Student Awards to determine eligibility 2) a proposal and application submitted in November to the Placement Office, Faculty of Education.
