The following awards have been made available thanks to the generosity of Queen's donors.
Armstrong Bursary
Under the will of the late Albert Irvin Armstrong, provision was made for a number of bursaries in the School of Medicine. Awards will be made on the basis of need.
Dr. Thomas J. Boag Memorial Busary
Established by family and friends of Dr. Thomas J. Boag, Dean, School of Medicine (1975-1982) and Vice-Principal, Health Sciences (1982-1988). Awarded on the basis of financial need to an undergraduate medical student in the Faculty of Health Sciences. Preference will be given to a student who has an interest in Psychiatry. Selection will be made in consultation with the Dean of Health Sciences.
Dr. Ernest A. Boxall Bursary
Established by Dr. Ernest A. Boxall, Meds. '45, and awarded annually on the basis of financial need to a student in good standing in the fourth medical year.
Bradshaw-Errington Bursary
Under the will of the late Russell D. Bradshaw, a fund was established to assist medical student at the University of Toronto, Queen's University, and the University of Western Ontario. Bursaries are awarded to students in any medical year. The candidate's place of residence must be at least 25 miles beyond the corporate limits of Toronto, Kingston, and London.

The terms for this award are cross listed with named General Bursaries, Engineering and Applied Science.
Dr. Martin W. Chepesiuk Award
Established in April 2001 by the Chepesiuk family. Awarded to a student in any medical year in the Faculty of Health Sciences who exhibits academic excellence, participates in intramural sport(s), and has financial need. Selection will be made in consultation with the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Dr. W.H. Cole Bursary
Under the will of Dr. W.H. Cole, MD 1908, provision was made for a bursary to be used to assist students in the Medical Program in the School of Medicine. Awards will be made on the basis of financial need.
Dr. William Cornett Memorial Bursary
Established in January 2008 by his children Catherine and Christopher Cornett in memory of their father, William Cornett, M.D. 1945, and awarded on the basis of financial need to undergraduate students in any year in the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Cortlandt MacKenzie Bursary
Established in April 2004 by Dr. Cortlandt MacKenzie, Meds '51, and awarded on the basis of financial need to undergraduate students in any medical year in the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen's University.
Dr. Sam Cronk (Medicine 1915) Memorial Bursary
Established in 1997 by Dr. L. Bruce Cronk, Medicine 1946, and Mrs. Harriet E. (Cronk) Simmons, Arts, 1941, in memory of their father. Awarded on the basis of financial need to undergraduate students in any medical year within the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen's University who are residents of Ontario.
Dr. Gary Diotallevi Memorial Award
Established by an anonymous donor, and awarded on the basis of sound academic record and financial need to a full-time medical student in the Faculty of Health Science. Preference will be given to a student from Northern Ontario.
Dr. J. M. Dunn Bursary
Established in April 2001 from the estate of Marion Dunn in memory of her brother, John Dunn and their father, Dr. J.M. Dunn, graduating class of Medicine, 1910. Awarded on the basis of financial need to a full-time medical student in the Faculty of Health Sciences who is a resident of Eastern Ontario. Preference will be given to a student from Leeds County.
Dr. G. Harold Ettinger Testimonial Bursaries
Established by his former students in honour of Dr G. Harold Ettinger, Dean of Medicine at Queen's University from 1949 to 1962. Awarded to medical students in good standing to assist in meeting unexpected financial need; any excess funds will be used to support initiatives to improve teaching and learning in the medical program.
John B. Ewing Bursary
Under the will of the late John Burke Ewing (Med'32), provision was made for a bursary to be awarded annually on the basis of need to a medical student who is a graduate of a high school in the County of Leeds or the County of Frontenac excepting high schools within the municipal limits of the cities of Brockville and Kingston who, in the opinion of the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Medical Studies, is deserving of the award. In the event that there is no eligible candidate for the award, a bursary will be awarded to a medical student who has graduated from a high school located in Ontario and not within the geographical limits of a municipality having a population in excess of twenty-five thousand at the time of high school graduation.
Dr. Ben Finkelstein and Family Bursary
Established in January 2005 in memory of Ben Finkelstein, Medicine 1941, and in honour of those family members who are at present attending Queen's University, by his wife Eve (Zbar) Finkelstein, Arts 1942. Awarded on the basis of financial need to a student in the fourth year of studies in the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen's University.
Dr. William Thomas Gaukrodger Bursary
Established in April 2007 by Alice Gaukrodger, B.A.(Hons) 1951, M.A. 1953, in memory of her husband, William Gaukrodger, M.D. 1953, and awarded on the basis of financial need to second-year medical students in the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Dr. W. R. Ghent Memorial Bursary
Established by members of the class of Medicine 1971 in memory of Dr. W.R. Ghent, Medicine 1947 (Honorary 1971 Class President), and in recognition of their 25th reunion. Awarded on the basis of financial need to students in any medical year in the School of Medicine who are residents of Ontario.
Larry Gibson Medical Student Bursary
Established in January 2012 by the Estate of Larry Gibson and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year of the School of Medicine at Queen's University, who have resided in Kingston, Ontario for not less than ten (10) years prior to attending Queen's University School of Medicine. Preference will be given to students who have an interest in palliative care.
Dr. Chilvers Gooch Scholarship
made for a scholarship to be awarded to a student in any medical year and given on the basis of academic proficiency and need.
Donna Jeanne Guyitt Memorial Award
Established in October 2006 by Keith Guyitt in loving memory of his wife Donna Jeanne Guyitt and in appreciation of Dr. John Richard Adams, Meds. 1998. Awarded on the basis of financial need and academic achievement to a student in the fourth year in the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences. Preference will be given to students who are interested in pursuing residency in Neurology.
W. Gordon Hamilton Bursary in Medicine
Established in November 2004 in memory of Dr. Gordon Hamilton, Meds 1913, by family and friends and awarded on the basis of financial need to students in any year of studies in the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Science.
Benjamin Charles Hardiman Bursary
Established by Dr. B.C. Hardiman, (Meds '14). Available to a needy and deserving student in any medical year. Preference shall be given to a relative of an ex-service man or woman.
Qamar Jehan Hassan Bursary
The terms for this award are cross listed with named General Bursaries, Engineering and Applied Science.
Dr. Ernest A. and Edna F. Johnson Bursary
Established by Dr. Ernest A. Johnson, Medicine 1938, and his wife, Edna. Awarded on the basis of financial need to undergraduate students in the final medical year within the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen's University who are residents of Ontario.
Justus Bursary in Health Sciences
Established in September 2006 by the estate of Howard Willis Justus, M.D. 1928, and awarded on the basis of financial need to medical students in the School of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences.
Dr. Clair Johnston Locke Memorial Bursary
Established in October 2006 from the estate of Helen Audrey Locke in memory of her husband, Dr. Clair Johnston Locke, Meds. 1935, and awarded on the basis of financial need to students in the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Kenneth E. Kraemer Bursary
Under the will of the late Kenneth Esca Kraemer, a bursary fund has been established to assist medical students in financial need.
Honourable Ray Lawson Award
An award established by the Honourable Ray Lawson to be given annually to a student entering the third year of the medical program on the basis of financial need and academic proficiency.
Victor Gok Leung Lee Memorial Award
The terms for this award are cross listed with named General Bursaries, Arts and Science, Biology.
Dan Lynch Award
Established in February 2011 by a bequest from Jane and Michael J. Lynch, Meds 1958, in honour and memory of his great grandfather, Dan Lynch, who was an intrepid stone mason. Awarded on the basis of financial need and academic achievement to students in the final medical year in the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Dr. M. Gerald Lynch Awards in Medicine
Established in April 2002 by Dr. Michael J. Lynch, Meds 1958, in memory of his father, Dr. M. Gerald Lynch, Meds 1921. Two awards to be given annually on the basis of financial need and academic achievement to students entering the second medical year within the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen's University.
Dr. Michael Mansfield Howell Bursary
Established by the family of Dr. Michael Mansfield Howell and awarded on the basis of financial need to a student in the School of Medicine.
A. Colin and Merylin M. McKinley Bursary
Established by Merylin M. McKinley, Arts '56, and A. Colin McKinley, Meds '58, and awarded on the basis of financial need to an undergraduate medical student(s) in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen's University. Preference will be given to aboriginal students or students coming from rural areas who indicate a desire to work in a rural area.
Medicine 1951 Bursary
Established by members of the class of Medicine 1951 in recognition of their 45th reunion. Awarded on the basis of financial need to students in any medical year in the School of Medicine who are residents of Ontario.
Meds '53 Bursary
Established in January 2003 by members of the class of Medicine 1953 to mark the occasion of their 50th reunion. Awarded on the basis of financial need to students in any undergraduate medical year in the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen's University.
Meds 1954 Bursary
Established in July 2004 by members of the Class of Medicine 1954 and awarded on the basis of financial need to students in any medical year in the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen's University.
Medicine 1955 Bursary
Established in November 2005 by members of the Class of Medicine 1955 in honour of their 50th Reunion and awarded on the basis of financial need to undergraduate medical students in the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Medicine 1956 Bursary
Established by members of the class of Medicine 1956 in recognition of their 40th reunion. Awarded on the basis of financial need to students in any medical year in the School of Medicine who are residents of Ontario.
Medicine 1956 50th Reunion Bursary
Established in February 2007 by members of the class of Medicine 1956 in recognition of their 50th anniversary of their graduation. Awarded on the basis of financial need to students in any medical year in the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen's University.
Medicine 1957 Bursary
Established by members of the class of Medicine 1957 in recognition of their 40th reunion. Awarded on the basis of financial need to undergraduate students in any medical year within the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen's University, who are residents of Ontario.
Meds '58 Memorial Bursary
Established in April 2004 by members of the class of Medicine 1958 in recognition of their 45th reunion and as a memorial to the loss of class members and family. Awarded on the basis of financial need to undergraduate students in any medical year in the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen's University.
Meds 1959 Bursary
Established in October 2010 by the class of Meds 1959 in celebration of their 50th reunion and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to undergraduate students in any year of the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Meds '61 Jack Kerr Bursary
Established in October 2003 by members of Meds '61 on the occasion of their 40th reunion and in honour of Jack Kerr, Honorary Class President for the Class of Medicine 1961. Awarded on the basis of financial need to an undergraduate student in any medical year within the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen's University.
Medicine 1962 Bursary
Established by members of the class of Medicine 1962 in recognition of their 35th reunion. Awarded on the basis of financial need to undergraduate students in any medical year within the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen's University, who are residents of Ontario.
Meds '63 Bursary
This fund, established by the 1963 graduates in Medicine at Queen's University, provides a bursary to help pay the tuition cost of a student in any medical year. The bursary will be given on the basis of financial need.
Meds '65 Memorial Bursary
Established by the class of Meds '65 in memory of classmates. Awarded on the basis of financial need to students in any medical year in the School of Medicine.
Medicine 1968 Bursary
Established by members of the class of Medicine 1968 in recognition of their 30th reunion. Awarded on the basis of financial need to students in any medical year in the School of Medicine who are residents of Ontario.
Meds 1971 Bursary
Established in May 2007 by the class of Medicine 1971 in honour of their 35th Reunion and awarded on the basis of financial need to undergraduate students in any year in the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Meds '72 Jack Milliken Bursary
Established by members of the class of Medicine 1972 in recognition of their 25th reunion. The name of the bursary was amended on the occasion of their 30th reunion in memory of Jack Milliken, whose teaching and guidance inspired class members. Awarded on the basis of financial need to undergraduate students in any medical year within the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen's University, who are residents of Ontario.
Meds 1973 Bursary
Established in May 2007 by members of the class of Medicine 1973 on the occasion of their 30th reunion. Awarded on the basis of financial need to undergraduate students in any year in the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Meds '75 Bursary
Established in April 2001 by members of Meds '75 on the occasion of their 25th reunion. Awarded on the basis of financial need to an undergraduate student in any medical year within the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Meds '76 Bursary
Established by members of the Class of Medicine 1976 on the occasion of their 25th reunion. Awarded on the basis of financial need to students in any undergraduate medical year in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen's University.
Meds '77 Bursary
Established in November 2002 by members of the class of Medicine 1977 on the occasion of their 25th reunion. Awarded on the basis of financial need to students in any undergraduate medical year in the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Meds '78 Bursary
Established in July 2004 by members of the Class of Medicine 1978 on the occasion of their 25th reunion. Awarded on the basis of financial need to an undergraduate student in any year of study in the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen's University.
Meds '79 Bursary
Established in July 2004 by members of the Class of Medicine 1979 and awarded on the basis of financial need to students in any medical year in the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen's University.
Meds 1984 Bursary
Established in May 2007 by members of the class of Medicine 1984, and awarded on the basis of financial need to undergraduate students in any year in the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Meds 1985 Dan Yeh Bursary
Established in October 2010 by members of the class of Medicine 1985 in memory of their classmate Dan Yeh, M.D. 1985, and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to undergraduate students in any year of the School of Medicine at Queen's University.
Medicine 1988 Bursary
Established in September 2008 by the class of Medicine 1988 and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year of the School of Medicine.
Meds '89 Bursary
Established in February 2010 by the class of Medicine 1989 in recognition of their 15th and 20th reunions and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year of the School of Medicine.
Dr. M. Menzies Medical Bursary
Established in July 2011 by the estate of Dr. M. Albert Menzies, Meds 1945, and awarded to full-time undergraduate medical students in any year in the School of Medicine on the basis of financial need.
R. I. Merritt Bursary
Established by Nathan Star, this bursary is available to a student in the final year. The award will be based on the recommendation of the Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, taking into account scholastic attainment and financial need.
Moore-Fairbairn Bursary
Established in 1997 by Dr. William Morley Moore, Medicine 1962, and Carole Christena (Fairbairn) Moore, R.N., Kingston General Hospital 1960, in memory of Clifford Douglas Moore, Medicine 1928, and Alfreda May (Morley) Moore, R.N., Kingston General Hospital 1928. Awarded on the basis of financial need to undergraduate students in any medical year within the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen's University who are residents of Ontario.
Dr. and Mrs. Frank D. Newell Scholarship
Established by Dr. F.D. Newell (Meds '46) and Mrs. Newell. A number of scholarships are awarded annually to cover the cost of tuition. Awards will be made to students in good standing on the basis of need.
Dr. Fergus O'Connor Bursary
In honour of the late Dr Fergus O'Connor Sr., Meds '06, the late Dr. Maurice O'Connor, Meds '34, and Dr Fergus O'Connor Jr., Meds '36, a bursary has been established by members of the family to assist students in the School of Medicine. Awards will be made on the basis of need provided the student has good academic standing.
William E. O'Hara Undergraduate Medicine Bursary
Established in November 2002 by a bequest from the estate of William E. O'Hara, M.D. 1946, and awarded on the basis of financial need to students registered in second, third, or fourth year in the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Betty O'Neil Scanlon and Dr. Francis Cannella Bursary
Established in December 2001 in memory of Mrs. Betty O'Neil Scanlon and Dr. Francis Cannella, M.D., C.M., 1960, by her husband Dr. John Scanlon, M.D., C.M., 1958, and his brother Dr. Joseph Cannella, M.D. 1961. Awarded to students in any medical year in the Faculty of Health Sciences on the basis of financial need.
Dr. Joseph and Mary Louise Parisi Award in Medicine
Established in May 2007 by Joseph Parisi, M.D. 1984, F.R.C.S.C., and Mary Louise Parisi, B.A. (Hons.) 1986, B.Ed. 1988, and awarded on the basis of financial need and academic achievement to undergraduate students in any year in the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Dr. John A. Percival Bursary
Established by the family of John A. Percival, Meds 1933, and awarded on the basis of financial need to an Ontario resident in the third and/or fourth year of the medical program who has an interest in family medicine. Selection will be made in consultation with the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Dr. Stanley H. and Mildred E. Perkins Bursary
Established from a bequest by Mildred E. Perkins, in the name of herself and Dr. Stanley H. Perkins, M.D. 1918, and awarded to a student in any year of the Medical program on the basis of financial need. The bursary will be used to assist with the cost of tuition.
Stanley and Jean Pitt Bursary
Established in October 2006 from the estate of Jean Pitt, B.A. 1932, and Stanley Pitt, Sc. 1930, and awarded on the basis of financial need to students in any year in the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Pokrupa-Smith Medical Student Bursary
Established in February 2006 by friends and family of Karen Smith, MD 1982, and Ron Pokrupa and awarded on the basis of financial need to students in their second, third, or fourth year in the School of Medicine, with a preference given to students with an interest in neuroscience.
John Puxty Studies in Aging Memorial Bursary
Established in November 2003 in memory of his late father by Dr. John Puxty and awarded on the basis of financial need to students in the Faculty of Health Sciences pursuing studies in geriatrics or gerontology.
Queen's Medical Student Bursary
Established in October 2002 by the School of Medicine and awarded on the basis of financial need to students in any medical year in the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
James H. Rattray Memorial Bursary
Established by Major James H. Rattray, MC, a number of bursaries may be awarded to students in good standing in any medical year on the basis of need.
Dr. Cecil Reid Patience Bursary
Established by gifts from the estate of Dr. Cecil Reid Patience, Medicine 1928. Awarded on the basis of financial need to students in any medical year in the School of Medicine who are residents of Ontario.
Harry Cameron Robinson Bursary
Established from the estate of Harry Cameron Robinson, M.D. 1930. Awarded on the basis of financial need to students in any medical year in the School of Medicine who are residents of Ontario.
Rutherford-Noel Family Award
The terms for this award are cross listed with named General Bursaries, Nursing.
School of Medicine Bursary
Awarded on the basis of financial need to students in any medical year in the Faculty of Health Sciences who are residents of Ontario.9
Dean Barry Smith Bursary
Established in November 2000 by the Aescupalian Society, friends and colleagues in honour of Dean Barry Smith, Meds '69, for his years of service to the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen's University. Awarded on the basis of financial need to a student in the School of Medicine, with preference to a First Nations student.
L. M. A. Smith and Evelyn Smith Bursary
In honour of L.M.A. Smith (Sci '36) and Evelyn Smith (nee Shillington), (Arts '35), a bursary has been established by their children, Allison, Gordon, Norman, and Anthony, to assist students in the School of Medicine. Awards will be made on the basis of need to students in good standing.
Adiel Steacy Memorial Scholarship
The Adiel Steacy Scholarships are to be used for the support of students of high quality from the Brockville Secondary Schools who are in need of assistance to enable them to pursue the study of medicine at Queen's University. Scholarships will be awarded annually in any of the four medical years. If a student of high quality is not available from Brockville, a student who obtained secondary school education from elsewhere in Ontario may be chosen.
John D. B. Walton Bursary
Established by John D.B. Walton, Arts '45 and awarded to students in the third year of the School of Medicine on the basis of financial need.
John McGill Yourex Bursary
Under the will of A. Eleanor Yourex, in honour of her father, Dr. John M. Yourex, provision was made for bursaries to be used to assist students in the Medical Program in the School of Medicine. Awards will be made on the basis of academic excellence and financial need.
