Exchange Bursaries and Scholarships

Recognizing the value of a study abroad experience, Queen's has established a number of bursaries to assist students with a financial need who would like to participate in a Queen's Formal Exchange.

Exchange Bursary

Queen's students on exchange

As part of the assessment for a Queen's Exchange Study (or BISC) bursary, there is an emphasis on assisting those students who have and continue to demonstrate need over and above the maximum funding available through government student financial assistance. All domestic students (Canadian citizens and permanent residents) will be required to apply for government student financial assistance in order to be considered for exchange (or BISC) bursary assistance. Generally a student will be expected to have qualified for at least $6,830 of government student assistance.

Queen's students participating on an exchange may also apply for a Queen's General Bursary though your Exchange Bursary application is assessed on the basis of financial need for the full cost of attendance in the fall/winter academic year. If eligible for bursary assistance, the value of the bursary will include bursary assistance for your fall term on exchange and winter term at Queen’s, or if you are on a full year exchange, it will be for fall and winter term. If you receive any additional General Bursary assistance, it will be minimal.

If you wish to be considered for assistance, please submit the Exchange Study Bursary application to the Student Awards Office. Please note that only students participating in a Queen's Formal Exchange are eligible to apply for this program.

Exchange Scholarships

Scholarships have been established to assist students participating on a Queen's Formal Exchange. These scholarships are not based on financial need, unlike the Exchange Study Bursary. Please note that only students participating in a Queen's Formal Exchange are eligible to apply for these scholarships.   Student do not need to apply for the majority of Exchange Scholarships and will be automatically considered for these scholarships if offered a Queen's Formal Exchange. Please visit the Awards List section for a complete list of Exchange Scholarships.
