If an OSAP applicant (married student or sole support parent) has a dependant child in postsecondary studies who has also applied for OSAP funding, the income of the OSAP applicant and his or her spouse (if any) is considered in the calculation of an expected family contribution. The same income also is considered in the dependent child’s OSAP assessment, as an expected parental contribution.
This review allows the amount of the expected parental contribution in the child(ren)’s OSAP assessment to be considered an exceptional expense in the parent’s OSAP assessment. Note: If the dependent children are in full-time studies and have not applied for OSAP, there is no expected parental contribution, so no review is necessary.
