The Student Experience Office regularly hires student staff to help plan and implement programming in a number of areas, and provides a number of student volunteer opportunities.

Program Assistants

Throughout the year, the SEO hires a number of student staff to assist with program planning and implementation. These students may be hired for a semester, for the summer, for the school year, or for an entire year, depending on the position. In the past, students have assisted with University Orientation, QSuccess, Summer Orientation to Academic and Resources (SOAR), and the Co-Curricular Opportunities Directory (CCOD).

Orientation Volunteers

Orientation Volunteers (OVs) are students who are interested in facilitating the personal, social, and academic transition of first year students during University Orientation. OVs assist with the logistical coordination of events, and provide on-site management and support. Through facilitating multiple orientation events, they have to opportunity to meet and actively engage with first year students. OVs are typically recruited in the winter semester.

BISC Mentors

BISC mentors support the transition of students who spent their first year at the Bader International Study Centre (BISC) from the Castle back to the Kingston campus. Mentors act as a resource while students explore their new community, and plan events with the goal of helping students adjust to life in Kingston. All BISC mentors are students who have previously spent time at the BISC. BISC mentors are typically recruited in the winter semester.

QSuccess Mentors and Facilitators

QSuccess mentors and facilitators are upper-year students who support the transition of first year students to Queen's.

Mentors will guide participating students in a 1:1 setting through exercises to build tangible social, academic, and healthy lifestyle skills to support the first 6 weeks of their transition to life at university. Mentors will refer students or accompany students to appropriate workshops and resources around campus as needed to ensure that their mentees get all of their questions answered.

Facilitators will act as hosts to three online interactive webinars during the first 6 weeks of term that can be viewed by every first year student who chooses to opt in. We are seeking engaging and creative students who are comfortable having an online presence to be the face of transition for first-year students.

Existere/Excetera Cast & Directors

Existere cast members work together to produce a theater performance that raises awareness around important issues relevant to first-year students. The cast creates the scripts, assigns roles, contributes to blocking out scenes, and acts in the on-stage roles. Existere directors oversee the cast and the show, create the vision for the performance, and lead the development of the script. Directors are typically hired in the fall semester, and cast is hired in January.

Excetera cast members and directors fulfill the same roles as those involved in Existere, but for a January show. Excetera cast and directors are typically hired in the fall semester.
