Healthy Lifestyle Appointments

Health Promotion staff offer one-on-one appointments to any Queen’s student who want to improve their physical activity, eating and/or sleep habits.  Through professional advice, coaching, and resources students can learn how to start and a new habit plus learn what foods can help keep energy levels up and improve memory/concentration.

NOTE: Students will not be given a personalized eating or exercise routine but will instead be given tools and resources to improve their habits.

Smoking Cessation Appointments

Health Promotion staff offer one-on-one consultation appointments to any Queen’s student who want to quit smoking.  Through professional advice, coaching and resources students can learn what will work best for them to either cut back or stop smoking all together.

Session Details: 

Mental Health Hacks: Assessing and Improving your Well-being

Understand factors that affect your well-being and the things you can do to increase your emotional resilience. In this workshop, you will have a chance to reflect on your lifestyle and identify habits you can concentrate on that will contribute to your overall wellness.  

In this workshop you will:

  • Identify what practices you already engage in that promote well-being
  • Reflect on the ways some of your habits may be draining your resources to deal with challenges and how you can make adjustments to better manage your stress
  • Learn 5 exercises to build your mental muscle
  • Learn how to cut yourself some "S.L.A.C.K" in the New Year & how to cultivate grit.

Stress Reduction through Self Compassion
Understand how self-compassion leads to healthier behaviours and can be a significant source of strength in difficult times. In this workshop, you will learn what self-compassion really means and discover how it can be a powerful way to increase your emotional strength. "Unlike self-criticism, which asks if you are good enough, self compassion asks what’s good for you" - Dr. Kristin Neff

In this workshop you will:

  • Examine how self-compassionate you are
  • Discover how to stop being so hard on yourself and instead motivate yourself with encouragement
  • Learn 3 ways to boost your self-compassion

Emotional Skills to Fight Procrastination

Understand how underlying emotions or other factors might be affecting your motivation and leading to procrastination. In this workshop, we will show you how to develop strategies to manage procrastination and associated emotions. Leave refreshed with a new game plan to tackle the last weeks of term!

In this workshop you will:

  • Assess your current levels of procrastination to build self-awareness of the underlying factors affecting your motivation
  • Learn the three best ways to beat procrastination
  • Rethink to-do lists and schedules to stay organized without being overwhelmed
  • Discuss 10 key practical tips to get started, and learn what works for others at Queen’s.

This is not simply a time management workshop, but a way for you to start to understand and get to the root causes of your procrastination and motivation issues. Take an hour now to set yourself up for success – it will be well worth your time!

Strategies to Tackle Overwhelming Exam Stress

Understand how emotions might be affecting your ability to prepare for exams and/or deal with associated stress/anxiety. This workshop will help you develop healthy coping strategies to manage emotions and behaviours more effectively.

In this workshop you will:

  • Identify what you are doing well already to build on those strengths
  • Reflect on what might be getting in your way of managing exam stress
  • Learn 8 points of focus to reduce exam stress

These strategies will include the PEACE strategy, anxiety reduction techniques and many more. Don’t let exam stress get the best of you. We are here to help!
