The University is committed to the responsible disposal of its solid non-hazardous waste through the management of the waste hauling contract, compliance with government waste handling regulations and implementation of "reduce, reuse, recycle" programming.

In an effort to responsibly handle the campus waste, the University recognizes that landfill avoidance is an essential element of operating a sustainable campus. To this end, the Sustainability Office continually endeavors to develop and promote initiatives that help the University divert as much waste from landfill as possible. The Queen's University Waste Audit Report (2016) is a great resource to learn more about our campus waste streams.

The success of the University's diversion initiatives relies on the cooperation and participation of students, faculty and staff.  For more information about campus waste diversion practices and what you can do to reduce, ruse and recycle on campus, please see the resources provided our website or contact the Sustainability Office.
