Equinox Summit: Energy 2030 Forum Applications Open

June 5 - 9, 2011

The Waterloo Global Science Initiative (WGSI) is looking for young leaders who want to glimpse into the future, and prepare for it today.WGSI is looking for motivated individuals, ages 20 to 30, to be part of a Forum of Future Leaders for the inaugural Equinox Summit: Energy 2030 hosted at Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in Waterloo, Ontario.

The Equinox Summit: Energy 2030 is a global conversation about how science and technology can help solve our current energy crisis. A new strategy will be used that involves intense collaboration between pioneering expert scientists, next-generation leaders from around the globe, and a mentoring group of seasoned advisors from science, engineering, public policy, and politics. The Summit is focused around the creation of a blueprint document that shortlists a set of key technologies that could transform the current carbon-heavy scenario and offers a roadmap for successful implementation.

How can students get involved?

1.  Forum applications: 

WGSI is accepting applications for a Forum of Future Leaders to work directly with top experts and visionaries from around the world. If selected, you'll have the exciting and strategic opportunity to shape our global energy future. WGSI is looking across the globe for young leaders in policy, politics, civil society, and business aged 20 to 30. All successful applicants will be offered travel scholarships. The application deadline is April 15, or until all spots are filled.

2. Reserved tickets for students

The Equinox Summit: Energy 2030 has a packed agenda with daily speakers, videos, televised panel debates, and the final presentation of the Summit’s findings. These will be streamed line and on-demand for the world to see. There will be a number of advanced free tickets for students for the morning plenary.  The talks feature top experts at 9:00 - 10:30 AM on June 6, 7, and 8. Students are allowed 2 tickets each, and reserved spots will only be held until April 15. For students to reserve tickets, follow these two steps:

  1. Email a short request to from your university email address.
  2. Sign up for an account using the same email on our ticketing system by clicking here, the tickets will be dropped in your account!
