Fair Trade is an international movement that aims to alleviate poverty by ensuring that small, disadvantaged producers receive fair wages, fair prices for products and safe working conditions. Fair Trade also encourages environmental protection by promoting the use of natural products and fertilizers. The  Fair Trade Campus program is a  Fairtrade Canada initiative that recognizes universities that are committed to availability, visibility and awareness of Fair Trade on campus.

Engineers Without Borders is spearheading the campaign to obtain Fair Trade Campus designation for Queen’s. They now have the support of Queen’s Hospitality Services, and are looking to bring Fair Trade products to other retailers around campus. Look out for Fair Trade products such as coffee and tea in the dining halls and at your favourite retail outlets! More information about Fair Trade and its’ practices can be found on the Fairtrade Canada website (http://fairtrade.ca/), which is a non-profit organization that promotes Fair Trade certified products in Canada.
