Surplus Furniture

Physical Plant Services has implemented an item exchange network, Freecycle@Work.This application provides a vehicle for the campus community to advertise items they no longer need for others to use with no cost attached.  It could be anything: office supplies, furniture,  equipment. Using this site to exchange unwanted items saves money, ensures less waste goes to landfill and supports our campus culture of sustainability.

If you are interested in acquiring furniture please follow the steps below:

• Browse the Freecycle@Work online inventory to match your needs with the current stock.
• If you find a suitable item, make arrangements for delivery.
• Notify Waste Services when your item(s) is received so that the inventory list can be updated.

Return Policy:

If you are not satisfied with the item after it has been delivered to you it can be returned to Barrack Street storage. However, you will be responsible for the moving fee charged.

Personal Use:

Surplus furniture is currently stored at Barrack Street. After a period of time, unwanted items will either be donated to a charitable organization, marked as available for personal use or marked for disposal.

The decision to release surplus furniture for personal use is based on the following:

• is there potential the item would be reused on campus;
• what is the approximate value of the item (ie. is the item very new or considered an antique);
• will the department head approve the request.

After that, a waiver is signed by the staff person and the department head and the items can be removed by the employee. The waiver is available by through the Sustainability office.
