In February 2010, Principal Woolf signed the University and College Presidents' Climate Change Statement of Action for Canada. This pledge commits the university to engage in activities aimed at reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and enhancing research and curriculum in the areas of climate change and sustainability. It also requires development of a comprehensive Climate Action Plan (CAP), which will include;

• A summary of the current campus greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions
• GHG emission projections, incorporating planned  growth, and ‘business as usual’ scenarios
• Detailed strategies and actions to reduce the university’s GHG emissions
• Operations related climate action goals along with target dates for achieving goals
• An inventory and best practice comparison of current academic offerings and research to;
  • Provide recommendations to potentially inform enhancing  climate change as a part of the curriculum and other educational experiences
  • Capture the strength and raise awareness about university research on climate change, the environment and sustainability
• Key performance indicators (KPI’s) to track progress on goals and actions
• Mechanisms to implement and integrate the CAP within the university and fund the strategies
