Queen's Sustainability, Student Affairs and the School of Environmental Studies have contributed to renewing the University's membership to the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE.)
AASHE is an association of colleges and universities with a mission to empower higher education to lead the sustainability transformation, by providing resources, professional development, and a network of support to enable institutions to model and advance sustainability in everything they do, from governance and operations to education and research. To achieve this mission, the Association highlights and shares best practices, hosts conferences, provides professional development workshops, supports an online resource center and grants awards to institutions or individuals that make a significant contribution to sustainability.
Of particular interest to the Queen's community is the resources center. The online resource center, which can be accessed by any Queen's University email account holder, provides articles and studies in categories ranging from education/research to campus operations to administration/finance. Please follow the link and open your own account to start accessing these interesting resources.
Students may also want to investigate the awards program. There are two awards available for students including the Student Sustainability Leadership Award and the Award for Student Research on Campus Sustainability. Awards come with some financial incentive, presentation ceremony and the chance to have your research or leadership activities published. The application process begins in the spring of 2010.
