Orientation Week Gets Off the Bottle

September 8, 2009watercooler.jpg

In an effort the curb the use of disposable water bottles during Orientation Week the Orientation Round Table, the AMS Sustainability Office, Student Affairs and Queen's Sustainability have all collaborated to offer an alternative option.  Each incoming first year student will receive, as part of their welcome package, a reusable water bottle that they will be encouraged to carry with them throughout the week and refill as they need to from the various tap-water sources on campus.

To facilitate and encourage the use of these bottles, the AMS has published on their website a list of drinking fountain locations across campus where the bottles can be refilled. Additionally, refill stations with 10 gallon water coolers will be set up throughout the week to accommodate the various outside and off-campus events. Water refills are also available at each Sodexo food service outlet.

Messaging to students will encourage them to take advantage of these reusable bottles throughout the week, avoid the potential for plastic water bottles to end up in landfills and incorporate themes of conservation in their first week at University.
