Queen's has successfully negotiated a contract with Delphi Group, a consulting firm that will assist the university in developing a Climate Action Plan (CAP).
"This is a significant step forward in our development of a Climate Action Plan that will assist the university in achieving many of our sustainability goals," says Aaron Ball, Sustainability Manager.
Representatives from Delphi Group will work closely with the Queen's community to generate a CAP that includes a summary of the current campus greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory; GHG emission projections; operations climate action goals and strategies to reduce emissions; and mechanisms to track progress on goals and actions.
An internal advisory committee has also been established to collaboratively work on the evaluation, planning, development and implementation of the plan. The committee includes 22 members and is made up of students, staff and faculty from a wide range of departments and faculties.
In February 2010, Principal Woolf signed the University and College Presidents' Climate Change Statement of Action for Canada. This pledge commits the university to engaging in several activities aimed at reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and enhancing research and curriculum in the areas of climate change and sustainability. It also requires developing a comprehensive CAP.
