Adam DiSimine contributes to a number of sustainability-related initiatives on campus as commissioner of the environment and sustainability for the Alma Mater Society (AMS). But he recently moved from behind the scenes to in front of the camera to help create Queen’s 2012 video entry in Recyclemania’s “Spirit of Recycling” contest.
The video is a spoof of a popular commercial featuring basketball players Larry Bird and Michael Jordan, who compete in a shooting contest, banking the ball of floors, buildings and freeways. In the Queen’s version, Mr. DiSimine challenges Adam Holroyd, Arts’11, to land a water bottle in the recycling bin while banking it off Stauffer Library, though the JDUC and off Grant Hall.
The video, a collaborative effort between the AMS, Society of Graduate and Professional Students (SGPS), Queen’s Sustainability Office and student volunteers, has been named one of the top ten videos entered in the contest, alongside entries from Notre Dame, Ohio State and Purdue. Queen’s is the only Canadian university in the top ten.
The winner of the contest will be determined by the number of “likes” the videos receive on YouTube. The contest runs from March 19 to 26.
