Involving Students in the Assessment Process


The current thinking in higher education advocates for students to have a greater involvement in their learning and in how their learning is assessed.


Activity:

Consider the benefits and challenges of involving students in the assessment process. Think of two benefits and two challenges and then compare your answers with what we know from research about the benefits and challenges.


This idea of giving students a voice in the assessment process falls in line with the idea that students learn more effectively, and have higher motivation to learn, when they are active participants in their own learning.
