Project Scope of the Teaching & Learning Centre
In June 2010, a formal planning session was held to develop an overall scope for The TLC. A new teaching and learning building is expected to include:
- A large interactive auditorium (capacity 550).
This will be designed to allow good sight-lines to large screens as well as flexible seating to encourage student interaction and small group learning. It is envisaged as a wide room with high ceilings and acoustical engineering to absorb sound and facilitate break-out groups or didactic lecturing; - A large lecture theatre
Capacity 350. This will have a design similar to the above auditorium to enable small group work and inter-active learning, with appropriate communication technologies including video- and audio-capture. - A medium-sized lecture theatre
Capacity 250, configured as above. - A 150 seat flat room
With movable tables and chairs able to support multiple configurations to facilitate different teaching and learning styles. - Ten 30 seat seminar rooms
For small group teaching, e.g. seminar style.
While this is the tentative plan, the precise configuration and size of these may change as a result of feedback from The TLC building committee, faculty and students.
