2017 Discovery Grant Information for Queen’s Applicants

Quick instructions for completing a TRAQ DSS for a Discovery application for research or researchers who are NOT hospital-based.

For research involving hospitals (e.g., human samples) or applicants whose office is located on hospital grounds, you also need to fill out a "Hospital Departmental Impact & Information Form" (link to the form is in the Attachment tab), and you need to enter additional information into the TRAQ DSS: Hospital-Based Research - Tips for Completing the TRAQ DSS FORM and Hospital Departmental Impact & Information Form Tips. Additional FAQs and information for hospital-related TRAQ DSS entry can be found here: http://www.queensu.ca/traq/awards-grants-contracts/supportive-documents

Newly hired faculty without a Queen's netID can email vmk@queensu.ca to get a copy of these slides and/or the Best Practic document.

August 2, 2017, 8 PM

PIs have to submit their NOI (including a CCV) on the NSERC portal. The NOI is MANDATORY.
August - Sept 25 2017

Submission period for URS reviews: please send a draft of your proposal and/or application sections (partial drafts are fine) to the following:

For Faculty of applied science and engineering applicants: please send the draft to kelly.cathcart@queensu.ca

For all other faculties: please send the draft to: vmk@queensu.ca

The earlier you send your draft to URS the better. If you send us an early draft we can probably do a second review later, and it's totally fine to send a partial draft, or to send us bits and pieces as you finish them. After Sept 25 we will still attempt to provide some feedback, but will have significantly less time to spend on each application the closer it gets to the deadline.
Applicants are also highly encouraged to send their draft to several peers for review of the technical aspects of their proposal.

Oct 18, 2017 TRAQ DSS Deadline: applicants who are not hospital based should submit a TRAQ DSS with attached proposal draft and budget by October 18. Hospital-based applicants have to submit it by October 5. Quick TRAQ Instructions for Discovery applicants
Friday Oct 27, 2017 Mandatory Submission Deadline: all applicants have to submit their application on the NSERC Portal by that date, the earlier the better. URS has to do extensive checks on all 80+ proposals, and we need enough time so that applicants can still fix any issues that the URS checks uncover.
November 1, 2017

Discovery applications officially due at NSERC.
