VPN - Cisco AnyConnect Client

Cisco AnyConnectis an SSL VPN client that provides reliable and easy-to-deploy encrypted (SSL) network connectivity for Windows and mac operating systems.

Installation
  1. Uninstall any previous versions of the Cisco VPN Client or AnyConnect.

Windows:

  1. Click the Start button and select Control Panel.
    • Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8: Select Programs and the click the Uninstall a Program link.
    • Windows XP: Select Add/Remove Programs.
  2. Locate and remove any previous versions of the Cisco VPN client or Cisco AnyConnect client.

Mac:

  1. log in using an account with administrative rights.
  2. Open your applications folder and browse for any previous versions of the Cisco VPN client or Cisco AnyConnect client
  3. Drag the program or folder of programs that you wish to delete to the Trash.
  4. Download the appropriate Cisco AnyConnect 3.1 client by clicking on one of the following links:

AnyConnect Installer Links:

  1. After the installer downloads, double click and run it.
Configuration
  1. Click the Start button, select Programs, and then select Cisco AnyConnect.
    The Cisco AnyConnect Client will load.

  1. In the lower left corner, click on the "Gear" icon and select the Preferences tab.
    • Uncheck the "Start VPN when AnyConnect starts" option.
    • Check the "Allow Local LAN access when using VPN (if configured)" option.
  2. Close the dialog box.
  3. Under the VPN Selectiondropdown menu, manually add the following: vpn.queensu.ca/ouv

 


 

Using the Cisco AnyConnect Client

After installing the client, the connection can be turned on and off by accessing the Cisco AnyConnect client from the Start menu/screen. Be sure to stop the VPN connection when it is no longer needed!

Starting the VPN Connection

  1. Click the Start button, select Programs, and then select Cisco AnyConnect. Windows 8 users should have the AnyConnect icon on the Start screen by default.
  2. The following prompt should appear and select Connect.

  1. You will then be prompted to enter your netid and password. Select OK.

  1. The computer should successfully connect to the VPN. 

Stopping the VPN Connection  

  1. Close any services that require the VPN connection. Services may include quitting an application or disconnecting from a network drive or file share.
  1. Click the Start button, select Programs, and then select Cisco AnyConnect. Windows 8 users should have the AnyConnect icon on the Start screen by default.
  2. Select Disconnect. The computer should successful disconnect from the VPN.
