Our Mission: Supporting Excellence in Writing at Queen's
The Writing Centre is a site of interdisciplinarity within Queen’s, dedicated to enhancing the quality of academic writing across the curriculum at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
Writing experts of various backgrounds and perspectives intersect at the Writing Centre with students of equally diverse backgrounds and perspectives to negotiate – through writing – the expectations of a given assignment, professor, and discipline. Because people learn in different ways, the most effective way of teaching writing is to make available a range of instruction: large group, small group, one-to-one, general, and discipline specific. The transferability of critical thinking and writing strategies plays out in tutorials, workshops, seminars and credit courses, with clear, purposeful communication as an achievable goal.Faculty and staff at the Writing Centre are committed to creating a dynamic, collaborative learning environment emphasizing good writing as a fundamental communication tool of the university.
