Queen's is one of Canada's leading universities with an international reputation for scholarship, social purpose, and spirit.
As of July 7, 2009, Queen's "search" indexes Queen's websites both on and off the queensu.ca domain using Google Custom Search.
The Google Custom Search indexes publicly accessible documents on Queen's public web servers (web pages, pdfs, and other text files). It has not been enabled with any passwords or other means of accessing restricted content or databases.
Personal and confidential documents should never be posted to Queen's web spaces, as the Google Custom Search will index them. Keeping personal and confidential documents in a secure place like QShare is an excellent way to safely share documents with other users.
If you don't want a particular page within your site to be indexed (i.e. be accessible via the search), you can place the following <meta> tag with your page's <head> tag: <meta name='robots' content='noindex, nofollow'/>. If the page has already been indexed by the GSA, it will be removed from the index the next time the appliance crawls the page.
Submit your request to the webmaster.
You can also check to see if your site is already part of the search index by typing "site:http://yourwebsite.com" into the search box (replacing "yourwebsite.com" with the URL of your actual web site address.)
The Google Custom Search heavily relies on the content of your web site to determine how high your page or site will rank in the results pages.
There are a few things you can do to your web site to help improve your search results:
