Important Admission Updates

New for Fall 2021

Life Sciences and Biochemistry (4-year direct entry)

Our Faculty of Arts and Science is excited to announce a new direct-entry Life Sciences and Biochemistry pathway. There are now two ways for students to access the Life Sciences Major: 1) via the new direct-entry pathway (OUAC program code: QL) or 2) via any of the “undeclared” general first-year Science programs (OUAC program codes: QS, QIS, QF, QIF, QXS). The prerequisite courses for admission to the new direct-entry Life Sciences pathway are the same as those for the Bachelor of Science program.

Mechatronics & Robotics Engineering (4-year direct entry)

QuARMS eligibility

In order to reduce barriers to medical education, the Faculty of Health Sciences and the School of Medicine have updated the eligibility requirements for the QuARMS pathway. This educational initiative selects up to 10 high school students who are Indigenous or who self-identify as Black African, Black Caribbean, Black North American or multi-racial students who have and identify with their Black ancestry.

The application process will remain the same as last year. Applicants no longer require a school nomination to be considered, however, the deadline to apply now falls in line with our February 1 application deadline for all programs. Applicants who are interested in QuARMS must apply to Arts, Science, Life Science, Computing, or Health Science and indicate QuARMS as their “Subject of Major Interest” in the drop-down menu at OUAC when applying.

You can find more detailed information about QuARMS here.

Engineering prerequisites

Ontario high school students applying to any of our Engineering programs, will now have their admission average calculated using five specified prerequisite courses; English 4U, Calculus and Vectors 4U, Advanced Functions 4U, Chemistry 4U and Physics 4U.

Changes to Supplementary Information (including the former PSE)

High school grades are just one piece of information we use when making an admission decision. Each applicant to Queen’s has a unique To-Do List, detailing exactly what we need to round out complete their application. Applicants can see their To-Do List (and the due dates) on their SOLUS Student Centre once they have applied. We review and update our Supplementary requirements on a regular basis to ensure applicants have a meaningful platform to share additional information not available through their grades.

Commerce will continue to require the mandatory Supplementary Essay - due February 15th.

New for Fall 2021 Admission, applicants to Health Sciences are also required to submit the mandatory Supplementary Essay - due February 15th.

It is recommended that applicants to the Nursing program submit the Supplementary Essay, however, it will not be a mandatory requirement. Please visit our supplementary information page for full details on our Supplementary requirements and how, when and for which programs they are required.

Major Admission Awards

Major Admission Awards

Process

  • Qualified students may apply for Major Admission Awards by submitting a single Major Admission Award (MAA) application (qualifications can be found here). The MAA application is submitted ONLINE through the student’s Queen’s SOLUS Student Centre
  • Access to SOLUS is given once we receive a student’s application from OUAC. In order to meet the application deadline, students are encouraged to apply through OUAC by mid-November.
  • A practice copy of the MAA application is available on the Student Awards website.

Deadlines

The deadline for students to submit the MAA application is 1 December 2020.

Chancellor’s Scholarship Nominations

  • Students applying for the Chancellor’s Scholarship must make sure they have confirmation that their High School will be nominating them.
  • They will need the name and email address of the High School Official nominating them when they submit the online MAA Application in SOLUS.
  • Upon submitting their application, an email will be sent to their High School Official requesting they submit the High School Official form electronically. The student will then receive an email confirming the High School Official form has been received by their High School Official.
