The Strategic Planning Season is Here

By Deanna Bennett, Executive Director, Office of the Vice-Principal

Last fall, we began an Advancement-wide brainstorming exercise. Over a period of six months - through individual and group meetings with Karen, individual submissions to ALT members, and team meetings – we collected ideas and aspirations from as many members of Advancement as possible. The summary of those ideas and aspirations was shared in an email from Karen on February 12th.

All of that information has now been shared with the Offord Group.  In the coming weeks, the Offord Group will circulate a staff survey to supplement these ideas and aspirations. The results of the survey will be presented at the September 26th Strategic Planning Staff Meeting with the Offord Group.

Further to the survey, on Thursday, August 22nd, Offord is facilitating three Advancement staff focus groups.  Space will be limited to 60 participants (20 in each session). If you are interested in participating, please register here by the end of the day Friday, August 16th.

This is your opportunity to share feedback and thoughts on strengths, weaknesses, areas for improvement, and opportunities. Thank you for taking the time to contribute.  The information you provide is truly valuable and will help shape Advancement’s future.

Workspace Planning Update

They say a renovation project without delays is like thunder without lightning. Obviously, work in West Summerhill hasn’t started; however we have been reassured that renovations are starting this week, and more importantly will be completed by the end of August. We want to thank everyone for your cooperation in moving out so fast and for your patience while work is in progress.

While we wait, the Space Committee colour experts (Jaime and Kelly) have been very busy curating a selection of warm neutral colours that work well in both Old Meds and Summerhill - two very different spaces when you consider factors like light, room configuration, etc. They have also identified accent and contrast palettes of blues and yellows that would work well.  The selections allow for a scheme to be used now and as a standard across Advancement in the future. We have created some visualizations from the Dulux website to help get a feel for how these colours could work together.

Advancement Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Working Group

Thank you to the volunteers who have joined Advancement’s new Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) committee: Ben Seewald, Carla Ferreira Rodrigues, Chantal Valkenborg, Deanna Bennett, Jess Boland, Judy Griffiths, Kate Bearse, Katelyn Siu, Michelle Pruefer, and Pavel Civin.

In anticipation of our September Staff Meeting presentation, we are eager to hear from you. Please take 10 minutes to complete an anonymous survey.  It is up to you how much information you provide, and all answers are kept confidential.

This survey will help us understand perceptions around EDI and develop our direction going forward. The survey closes August 7, 2019, and the results will be shared with staff in September.
