Tom HewittGrow Your Career

By Tom Hewitt, Chief Development Officer

If you want to grow your career and skills, you must take charge of your own professional development. Advancement’s investment in EAB’s Advancement Forum is a tremendous resource for many areas of our operation and a significant financial investment in your growth. If you haven’t yet explored the resources available to you, book an hour in your calendar to do so and/or arrange a call with EAB. Here is an article that’s a great example of what EAB has to offer.

In the Department of Development, all development officers must take advantage of a minimum of 11 EAB activities a year (these include webinars, reading a research paper, etc.). These activities are itemized and are discussed during the performance dialogue process.

Strategic Plan Survey

By now you will have been asked by e-mail to complete the survey being conducted by the Offord Group who have been chosen to assist Advancement with the development of our strategic plan. The survey is voluntary. All staff are encouraged to be part of the process and add your voice to the plan. The survey will take approximately five to 10 minutes and we ask if you could please complete this survey by Aug. 27, 2019.

All replies are confidential and anonymous.

Volunteers on External Relations and Development (ERD) Committee Take Stewardship to Next Level

The process for thank-you phone calls from the Chair of the Board of Trustees to donors of $1 million or more has existed since 2017. That process will continue and using that model the ERD Committee of the Board of Trustees will be calling donors of $100,000 to $999,000 to thank them for their generosity.

Following the first week of the month, Gift Services will provide Donor Relations with the list of all donations of $100,000 or more from the previous month. Donor Relations will then facilitate ERD Committee thank-you calls.

This new practice was approved by the ERD Committee at its recent meeting.

We will share more details in the coming weeks.

Summer Is Not Over Yet

Take note – the water temperature in Lake Ontario is a balmy 22 C.

Summer 2019 started on Friday, June 21, 2019 and ends on Monday, Sept. 23. Don’t waste a minute because the summer of 2020 doesn’t start until next year on June 20!

Here’s a tip – do whatever you can to help raise enormous amounts of money early in your day, and then sneak in some epic summer fun before the sun goes down!

Sunset is 7:53 pm on Monday, Aug. 26. It was 8:38 pm just a month ago. Don’t delay!
