Vice-Dean, Faculty of Arts and Science, Gordon E. Smith, Ph.D., invites you to attend a networking breakfast on Tuesday, October 31st, 2017 from 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM at the Ranchmen’s Club. The breakfast will feature keynote speaker, Wendy M. Craig, Ph.D., FRSC, O.Ont, Professor and Head of Psychology.

Dr. Wendy Craig is a leading international scientist and expert on bullying prevention and the promotion of healthy relationships.  As co-founder and co-Scientific Director of PREVNet (Promoting Relationships and Eliminating Violence Network), she has transformed our understanding of bullying and effectively translated the science into evidence-based practise, intervention, and policy and had a profound influence on communities across Canada. In recognition of her work, she has won numerous awards such as an Investigator Award from CIHR, the Canadian Psychological Association Award for Distinguished Contributions to Community Service, the Queen’s Excellence in Research Prize, Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal, and the Social Science and Humanities Research Council Impact Partnership Award.  She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and was recently awarded the Order of Ontario for her work on bullying.

Technology is here to stay and it is integral to youth’s social development. While there are many benefits to the internet, there are risks, such as being bullied online. Dr. Craig's presentation - There is no app for that! Managing bullying online - will review the latest research on online bullying, such as how exposure to online bullying influences the brain.  In addition, she will identify what are some evidence-based strategies to address and prevent it. As adults in children and youth’s lives, we can support the positive use of technology and ensure the healthy development of youth.
