Black Histories and Futures Month opening ceremony

Virtual event

We welcome all Queen's University and Kingston community members to the annual Black Histories and Futures Month virtual Opening Ceremony.

Featuring several panels on the theme Recognition, Justice and Develpment, and a moderated discussion with local Black Youth Leadership.

As well as a riveting live performance by poet, writer, and dancer Abena Beloved Green (Abena A. Tuffour).

And the unveiling of this year's Black Histories and Futures Month Calendar, highlighting events and activities occurring throughout the month.

This event seeks to engage all in a meaningful, thoughtful and celebratory start to the month of February. While February is widely known as Black History Month, the new name — BHFM — moves to recognize the breadth of past Black experiences, and looks toward the many ways Black people, communities, and allies are building a more diverse and equitable future.

Closed captions will be provided, however please contact Jermaine Marshall with any additional accessibility needs and/or requests.

If you’re a Queen’s or Kingston community member with a BHFM event or programming you are hoping to promote on the calendar, submit your information to the BHFM Calendar Submission Form for consideration.
