Graduate Student Conference: Context and Meaning

We are pleased to announce the 17th annual Context & Meaning Graduate Student Conference, taking place at Queen’s University from Friday, February 2nd to Saturday, February 3rd, 2018. We are seeking papers that address this year’s theme, “Complete Imperfection”. The conference will provide an inclusive and broadly defined forum that facilitates academic discussion while encompassing an abundant range of topics. In choosing this intentionally multidisciplinary theme we would like to encourage discussion about pushing boundaries, unconventionality, and controversy within Visual Culture studies such as Art History and Art Conservation.

Royal Society of Canada, Gala Dinner, Kingston

With the induction of Professor and Head, Joan M Schwartz as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (RSC), the Department now has more faculty in the RSC than any other Art History department in Canada.  Here, at the Royal Society of Canada gala dinner in Kingston on Saturday 19 November 2016 are (left to right): Fellows Pierre Du Prey (2002), Joan M. Schwartz (2016), and Gauvin Alexander Bailey (2013), and Member of The College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists, Una D’Elia (2014). Retired professor Gerald Finley, elected a Fellow of the RSC in 1984, was in Scotland and unable to attend.
