Katharyn Hernández graduated from Rice University in 2020 with a BS in Chemistry, a BA in Art History, and a certificate in Italian. As an undergraduate, Katharyn did research on the functionalization of nanomaterials with the Martí Group at Rice from 2018 to 2020 and co-authored two papers. As a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow (MMUF), she presented research at conferences in 2018 and 2019 and published an article in the MMUF Undergraduate Fellowship Journal 2019 on Latin American political perspectives explored through art. Following her graduation, she did research with the Department of Art History at Rice compiling knowledge about the motifs and locations of Campana reliefs. During the summer of 2022, she interned at the Conservator’s Easel, LLC in Altadena, California under Linnaea Saunders where Katharyn further developed her conservation skills.
