Consider Requesting a Pass (P) Grade for Undergraduate Courses

The Faculty of Arts and Science is making the following remedies available to you if your performance in classes from Winter term 2020 is compromised by the COVID-19 situation.

All Arts and Science undergraduate students who achieve a passing grade in a course that is lower than they might have achieved had the disruptions not occurred have the option to change their grade to a Pass (P) instead of their final letter grade. The P grade can be applied to any course through our portal – core, option, supporting or elective.  There is no limit on the number of P grades you can request for Winter 2020 term. These P grades have no impact on the Personal Interest Credit (PIC) option.

Once you have submitted your information in the portal, you will receive an email confirming your request has been received by the Faculty Office.  You will also receive a second email to notify you that your request has been approved. If there is an issue with your request the Faculty Office will contact you via your Queen’s email account so please ensure that you are checking it regularly.  The portal will close at 11:59 pm on May 20, 2020 and no requests will be accepted after this date.

All Arts and Science undergraduate students who fail a course will have the option to drop the course without academic penalty.  This is something you can do yourself in SOLUS up to May 20, 2020. The course will be removed entirely from your transcript.

We strongly encourage you to take time to consider these options and think carefully about the consequences of changing a letter grade to a P as there may be an impact on accessing some Degree Plans or course prerequisites. Your final grades will be available May 11 and you have until May 20, 2020 to make the decision that is in your best interest.

First year students – please check what it takes to be accepted to a Plan before requesting a P grade.

All students – please check course prerequisites for your Plan before requesting a P grade.
