Cuba's Carlos Varela returns to Kingston

Cuba's Carlos Varela returns to Kingston with Latin America's foremost Jazz Pianist, Aldo Lopez!!!

Thursday October 30th, 7:30pm Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts, 390 King St W. The bar opens at 6:45.

One of the most popular and provoking singer-songwriters in Cuba, Carlos Varela returns to Kingston for another stellar concert.  Varela, who has performed with Spain’s Joan Serrat, and the Americans Bonnie Raitt and Jackson Browne, received an honorary degree from Queen's in June, in recognition of his musical talent and the importance of his voice inside and outside Cuba.  Varela will be accompanied by jazz pianist Aldo López Gavilán, termed by Chucho Valdés as "simply a genius" and the London Times as a "formidable virtuoso."

This concert is in conjunction with the launch of My Havana: The Musical City of Carlos Varela (2014) edited by Maria Caridad Cumana, Karen Dubinsky and Xenia Reloba, published by the University of Toronto Press.

This concert is organized by the Queen's University Department of Global Development Studies, with support from the George Taylor Richardson Fund and the Departments of Film and Media, and History.
