Meet Miranda Gavidia, our new FAS Senior Staffing Officer

Miranda Gavidia has been named the new Senior Staffing Officer within the Faculty of Arts and Science. The position is responsible for leading the effective coordination of all administrative processes and activities related to staffing for academic faculty within the Faculty of Arts and Science.

Gavidia will also provide advice, information, feedback, education and training support to the Dean, Vice-Dean, Associate Deans, Heads of Departments, Directors of Schools, and Departmental Administrators on the relevant procedures set out in the Collective Agreement between Queen's University and the Queen's University Faculty Association (QUFA), the University Senate documents, Human Resources policies, as well as the administration of the academic appointment process.

She comes to FAS from the Queen’s University Faculty of Law and says her new position provides an opportunity to build upon her experience in a larger faculty.

“I started my Queen’s journey in 2006 as a Departmental Assistant with central HR,” Gavidia explains. “From there I held a number of different positions within central HR, which included Human Resources Representative, Compensation Assistant for Payroll Services, and then as a Human Resources Advisor, where my portfolio was the Faculty of Health Sciences. I then transitioned into a new role in 2018 as the HR and Staffing Officer in the Faculty of Law.”

Within FAS, the Senior Staffing Officer plays a key role in developing, planning, and implementing strategies to streamline departmental operations and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of internal departmental procedures, controls, systems, and reporting processes. The position also provides recommendations to translate strategies into enhanced service delivery solutions and contributes to successful operationalization of the Faculty’s initiatives and projects that align with the FAS Strategic Plan and academic priorities.

When Gavidia isn’t busy at work, she enjoys playing golf, traveling to sunny beaches, walks with her black lab Maya, spending time with “the joy of my life, my daughter Sofia”, and listening to different podcasts. She also loves soccer and football: her favorite team is FCP Porto; and she is a big New York Giants fan.
