Digital programming and virtual interactions, initially considered to be stop-gap measures during the first few waves of the pandemic, may now be an important part of supporting many people’s health and well-being — including the well-being of older adults.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, group musical activities moved online, prompting a wave of virtual choir experiments and virtual orchestra offerings.

An innovative music program created in the Faculty of Arts and Science is expanding its reach to support more older adults.

It’s plan selection time in the Faculty of Arts and Science. Students are busy making the important decision of which area of study they wish to pursue during their time at Queen’s University.

From now until May 27, students who have completed 24 units or more must declare their plan in SOLUS. For upper-year students this may involve requesting to change their degree program.

For the first time in 10 years, the campus will be bustling with activity in the summer months as the Faculty of Arts and Science has added nearly 40 courses for the summer term.

The redevelopment of a summer term supports the FAS Strategic Plan guiding principle of continuous learning, professional development and global engagement as well as its strategic priority of enriching the student experience by offering them both for-credit and non-credit opportunities.

A total of 502 student-athletes have been named Academic All-Stars, including 206 undergraduate and eight graduate students from the Faculty of Arts and Science, an increase of 40 over last year in FAS. These student-athletes have achieved an 80 per cent average (3.5 GPA) or above over the past academic year and compete on a varsity team or varsity club.

In a year filled with challenges the Queen’s University Dan School of Drama and Music is presenting the inaugural Watershed Festival – Reimagining Music Theatre.

The first of its kind, the online celebration explores all things music theatre and brings together the worlds of opera, musical theatre, and those pushing the boundaries far beyond these traditional music boxes.

Each year, teaching awards at Queen’s University are conferred to educators and staff who have excelled in fostering innovative, interesting, and inclusive learning environments.

In particular, the past year has been particularly challenging for the university’s instructors as the majority of programs and courses had to be switched to remote formats in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the ongoing pandemic, professors and instructors in the Faculty of Arts and Science have had to rethink the ways they connect with students. Several courses have been adapted to the new world of online learning including redesigning the use of textbooks, using Zoom technology for performances, and exploring archaeology virtually.

Queen’s University has launched a new ‘laddered’ Graduate Diploma and Master’s program that will provide students interested in pursuing or accelerating their career in the arts with a 360-degree view of the arts and culture industry.

Through the programs, offered by the Dan School of Drama and Music in collaboration with the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts, students can earn a Graduate Diploma in Arts Management with the successful completion of the six-week term, or continue with the Master’s in Arts Leadership.

Queen’s and St. Lawrence collaborate on Bachelor of Music Theatre program

Queen’s University and St. Lawrence College celebrated an exciting new collaboration on a one-of-a-kind Bachelor of Music Theatre program at the Isabel Bader Centre.

A highlight of the official signing were performances from St. Lawrence and Queen’s music theatre students from popular musicals including Pippen and The Sound of Music.
