Job description

Duties include but not limited to:

Security of the Castle, Bader Hall Residence, other estate buildings and campus gardens and grounds:

  • carry out hourly patrols of all campus buildings, gardens and grounds on foot and by car
  • monitor the CCTV system; maintain records and report incidents
  • be alert at all times to the safety and security of students, staff/faculty, guests, visitors and campus property at all times
  • complete the online daily security report

Unauthorized persons:

  • prevent unauthorised access to any part of campus
  • act as first responder to deal with intruders following Bader College company procedures

Emergency responder:

  • provide emergency first aid response, administer CPR and use defibrillator if required (training provided)
  • provide assistance with lift rescue in the event of an emergency.

Assist students, staff/faculty, guests and visitors as required:

  • show tact and diplomacy when dealing with unruly/unhelpful people
  • drive people with mobility needs between the Castle and the Bader Hall residence, using the security vehicle
  • assist with parking and directing traffic, vehicle and foot, to the Castle and grounds when required on events days
  • deliver supplies and packages between the Castle and Bader

Person specification – essential attributes include:

  • Key stage 2 level English and Maths
  • First Aid at Work certificate (training provided)
  • Sound computer skills including confident use of email, CCTV system and database input
  • Experience of using CCTV monitoring systems
  • Experience of working in security and patrolling a large area
  • Experience of working with a wide cross-section of people
  • Very high level of discretion and confidentiality
  • Enjoyment of working with people and good interpersonal skills and telephone manner
  • Ability to keep calm in emergency situations.

Bader College, located at historic Herstmonceux Castle, East Sussex, is the overseas campus of Queen’s University, Canada.
