Profile: Sam Belbin

Sam Belbin

Teaching

My main area of expertise is connecting seemingly black-and-white concepts learned for bedside work (such as anatomy) to their practical, policy, and ethical implications. These strengths are showcased through my teaching of Healthcare Ethics, Law, and Policy (IDIS 373), Introduction to Health Policy (HLTH 305), Personal Health and Wellness (HLTH 102), and Anatomy of the Human Body (ANAT 100).

I enjoy taking time to research ideas to provide engaging Experiential Learning opportunities for students, such as yoga sessions, debates with Oxford lawyers, and more.

Supervision & Leadership

  • Bi-weekly I lead Healthcare Debates where students can discuss healthcare policy issues from around the world that may not be covered within their classes. The topics for these debates are determined by the students that attend.

  • I am a coach for first-year students where I assist them to work towards their goals outside of the classroom. This is a self-directed opportunity for students to have a member of staff help them work through more personal concerns.

Research

  • Currently researching coping strategies used by healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic in low-, middle-, and high-income countries.

  • Currently interviewing for RN positions within England.

Recent Publications

  • Sears, K., Rodgers, J., Muhl, C., Elms, S., Barker, J.R., Durando, P., Belbin, S., & Godfrey C.M. (2021). Charting the ‘New Normal’ in Canadian Community Pharmacy Practice: Scoping Review. SPOR Evidence Alliance.
