Study a total of 30.0 units over the course of the year (the equivalent of 5 courses, or 15 units each term) from the wide range of courses on offer.

Participate in course-specific experiential and active learning opportunities (EALs), usually two each term per subject. Your embedded experiential learning usually takes place on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays throughout the term, essentially meaning your regular classes run Monday through Thursday. (Some EALs, such as guest speakers, poster presentations or film screenings take place on site, taking advantage of the Castle's extensive grounds and facilities. Experiential and active learning beyond the Castle includes visits to a variety of sites of interest such as world-famous museums, unique archives, public debates and performances, festivals, and historic sites.)

Take part in extended embedded experiential and active learning during Mid-Term Trips (MTTs) to important cities in the UK. In the past students have visited London, Edinburgh, Liverpool and Oxford.

Feel the benefit of small seminar group sizes, with an average class size of 14, and close interaction with our high-quality faculty.

Have every opportunity to become actively involved in campus life and to gain experiences outside the classroom. Get involved in a vibrant co-curricular program of performance and creativity!

Start planning ahead. In second year, you can go on to specialize in one or more subject areas. This is often intensive study in one subject, known as a Major, but you can include the option of less intense study in a secondary subject, the Minor. At Queen’s, these different options are known as Plans of Study, and there are over 2000 combinations possible. Our First Year Program is deliberately interdisciplinary, with close contact with your professors, covering a wide range of expertise, so that you can choose the Plan of Study that works for you!
