Global Perspective
The interdisciplinary nature of this program attracts students with diverse perspectives and the seminar-style classes allow for in-depth discussion with your professors and peers alike.
Experiential and active learning opportunities (EALs) such as visits to Cambridge University and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine will help you to develop the global awareness that is invaluable to personal and professional growth. Expand your scope and understanding of the issues surrounding global health and disability.
Each course includes lectures, visiting scholars, and EALs focusing on a combination of studies in disability and policy in global health, global sport, healthcare innovation, health communication and/or mental health. The faculty is drawn from a field of experts and experienced educators passionate about their area of expertise. And unlike many courses that look individually at global health or disability studies, this program provides a direct link between the two and is a unique program in Canadian universities.

Bader College Upper Year Bursary: valued up to $4,000, available for eligible students Arts and Science.

GSO Funding: Students attending Bader College's ISGHD program can apply for Global Skills Opportunity funding. There are three awards of $10,000 each available for Indigenous students, low-income students and those with disabilities.

Undergraduate Research Fund (ASURF): variable, available to Queen's students who must have paid the ASURF student fee.

It has been an incredible 6 weeks being a part of the ISGHD family at the Castle. I will never forget all of the amazing lessons and experiences I have gained from the program. The environment, teachers and students have all helped me think in ways I never have before and I will definitely take these tools with me wherever I end up in the future. Choosing to attend this program was one of the best decisions I’ve made. Not only was the program applicable to our area of study, it opened our perspective to many different professions. The EALs have been exceptional and eye-opening.

Permission to enrol in this program will normally be given if you are at third year standing and have a minimum GPA of 2.7.

This course offers the theory and context of Interprofessional education and collaborative practice from a global policy viewpoint as well as the opportunity to develop and apply the required Interprofessional education core competencies.
This course is designed to introduce students to the field of disability studies – definitions and conceptualizations of disability, language for talking about disability, methods of studying disability issues, policy and systems affecting people with disabilities, controversial issues in disability studies. The course will include lectures, seminars, debates, field trips, student presentations. Prerequisite: Level 4 and a minimum GPA of 1.9 and HLTH 332/3.0 and registration at Bader College, or permission of the School.
While people with disabilities continue to experience challenges to their full and equal community participation, people with disabilities in the context of mental illnesses are subject to particularly profound levels of social exclusion at a global level. This course will examine current disability discourse as it relates to mental illnesses and examine processes by which exclusion of this population occurs globally. Issues of exclusion will be evaluated using an international focus. Theoretical perspectives will be grounded in real life examples. Prerequisite: Level 4 and a minimum GPA of 1.9 and HLTH 332/3.0 and registration at Bader College, or permission of the School.
