Beth Richan

Beth Richan BA, BEd, OCT, MSc (RHBS), is Principal Lecturer in Health Sciences and Health Studies at Bader College, Queen's University. She received her undergraduate degree in Anthropology and History from the University of Regina, followed by an Education degree from the University of Toronto, and subsequently received a MSc in Rehabilitation Sciences at Queen's University. She has been involved in development programs that focus on Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) and disability where she developed educational programs for health and education professionals, community members, volunteers, students, and persons with disabilities in the rehabilitation, education, health, and social sectors. Her research interest is in CBR and vulnerable populations with her thesis examination focusing on post-conflict factors that influence social inclusion of people with physical disability in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Prior to her role at Bader College, her work at Queen's University for over twenty-five years, was with the International Centre for the Advancement of Community Based Rehabilitation (ICACBR), where she worked internationally on long-term health projects in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, among other regions.

Beth is honoured to have been awarded two Queen’s University Principal’s Impact Courses grants, several Queen’s University Alumni awards, and a Government of Canada Global Skills Development grant over the past several years.

Beth has been a faculty member at the Bader College since 2013 where she teaches courses in the Health Studies and Health Sciences programs with particular interest in global health and health outcomes for vulnerable populations, and individuals and communities affected by humanitarian crises.

Research

My research interest is in Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) with a focus on social inclusion of vulnerable populations with particular interest in developing countries and post-conflict regions.
