Job description

Duties include but not limited to:

Building maintenance, repairs, and services

  • Prioritisation of the repairs and maintenance of buildings and facilities on site
  • Oversight of the buildings & facilities and housekeeping teams
  • Working with contractors

Projects and strategic works

  • Liaison with the Director of Finance & Assets (DFA) on selection of contractors
  • Evaluation of tender submissions and making recommendations
  • Management of projects and strategic works as required

Waste management

  • Oversight of waste management

Health & Safety

  • Oversight and management of health and safety for the BISC/HCE


  • Control of budgets for all areas of responsibility within the job description



Person specification



  • Relevant City & Guilds, CIOB, BIFM or other construction/facilities management qualification (minimum Level 3)
  • NEBOSH certificate or willingness to obtain within 3 months of appointment

Knowledge, skills, experience and personal qualities

  • Leadership and excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Project
  • Ability to carry out risk assessments and implement safe systems of work
  • Knowledge of relevant health and safety requirements and current CDM Regulations
  • Extensive knowledge of building processes and construction trades
  • Experience of project management, including financial planning, negotiating, tendering and procurement, and scheduling trades
  • Organised with high level of attention to detail and quality control
  • Ability to quickly assess and deal with unexpected situations
  • Positive, proactive approach to change and new working practices
  • Professional and approachable attitude, always acting with integrity and honesty
  • Business focused


  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • Successful completion of an Enhanced DBS check

Bader International Study Centre, located at historic Herstmonceux Castle, East Sussex, is the overseas campus of Queen’s University, Canada. The campus occupies a 600-acre estate, including a range of academic, residential and recreational facilities.  Our dedicated faculty and staff provide exceptional academic programming for undergraduate and postgraduate students from Canada and around the world.  We also serve as a venue for international conferences and meetings. Our wholly owned trading subsidiary, Herstmonceux Castle Enterprises Limited, is responsible for running the gardens and grounds, corporate events and other functions.
