The latest BISC Explore Newsletter - Week 7

Hi there,

The Midterm Trip is this Friday! We'll be taking a break from the newsletter for next week, but you'll hear from us in Week 8! Scroll down to read an important announcement from the Ontario Provincial Government on conducting a survey on student voices on sexual violence.
Provincial Government Sexual Violence Survey
Sexual violence affects everyone. Help improve support services on your campus by taking part in the Student Voices on Sexual Violence survey in 2018. This survey will ask questions on sexual violence and for your input on:
• Beliefs and knowledge
• Education and prevention
• Institutional support services
• Experiences

Join other students in Ontario by participating in the Student Voices on Sexual Violence online survey being administered by CCI Research Inc.  This confidential survey is for all eligible students and your choice of $5 electronic gift cards in appreciation for your time. Visit www.sv-vs.ca for more information.
Peer Programs Information Session
Wednesday, Feb 14 @ 21:00 in C0
Join us for a BISC-specific Skype call with the Coordinators of Peer Programs at main campus to learn more about the positions available.
BULLSHIT - Scholar in Residence Talk
Wednesday, Feb 28 @ 13:00-14:00 in Conference Room
"Some say that politics today is post-truth. Others say it's truthiness. I prefer another word, one with a stronger smell. Please join me to discuss bullshit, what it is and how to find it in common political discourse. Drawing on the sophisticated, influential, and solemn philosophical literature, we will consider some important examples of the phenomenon, in hope of finding a way to cut the crap."

Please sign up outside of the dining hall to receive lunch at the talk.
  • Do you REALLY love the BISC and want to share that with all who will listen?!
  • Do you want a job on campus next year?

If so, you should definitely apply to be a Campus Tour Guide and BISC Ambassador!

Ambassadors
The Bader International Study Centre (BISC) Ambassadors are a group of students who attended the BISC in their first year of undergraduate studies, or for a semester as an upper year undergraduate student, and who have been through recruitment, selection, and training to prepare them to assist Undergraduate Admission and Recruitment in raising student awareness of international study opportunities at the Bader International Study Centre.

Working closely with the Senior Admission Coordinator (BISC) in Undergraduate Admission and Recruitment, the ambassadors represent and promote the BISC to current and prospective students, and may be invited to alumni events. The Ambassador Program will help students make an informed decision about applying to the BISC, and ambassadors will maintain a high standard of professional and personal excellence.

You will be expected to work 10 hours per month (September, October, November, January, February, March) at $14 per hour. Please see the job description for more information.

Tour Guides
If selected as a BISC Ambassador you will also receive Tour Guide training and be expected to fulfil regular Tour Guide responsibilities. A Campus Tour Guide is expected to work casually (2-4 hrs a month) throughout the school year with increased time commitment during large recruitment events such as the Ontario University Fair and on campus Open Houses (where you would typically be assigned BISC-specific tasks). Campus Tour Guides are also paid $14 per hour. See the attached job description for more information.
