Immigration Compliance

Immigration Compliance

First-Year Students

For students on a Student Visa the BISC is required to see the originals of and keep copies of your documents. This includes the following:

  • Immigration documents
  • Passport
  • Visa/Biometric Residence Permit

Scans of your passport and BRP are kept securely and a limited number of staff has access to them.

All other students are requested to submit their passports for scanning as this information is used for administrative purposes e.g. booking Mid-Term Trips in Europe.

The BISC has a legal duty to report students with Student Visas to UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) when the student has missed 10 consecutive timetabled commitments (which include all scheduled classes, on and off-site experiential learning opportunities, exams and arranged meetings with faculty). The BISC has an additional obligation to report to UKVI any other such changes that may affect the terms of an international student’s visa. This includes reporting failure to register, reporting withdrawals (both enforced and unenforced), and leaves of absence.

Upper Year Students

All students in the winter and summer terms are requested to submit their passports for scanning as this information is required when booking travel in Europe. Students who do not submit their information will be unable to participate in the Mid-Term Trip.

Students in the fall term may choose not to have their passport copied as they will not be travelling overseas with the BISC. However, students are advised to submit their passport for copying as a secure copy can be sent to travelling students in the event that a passport is lost or badly damaged.
