Herstmonceux Castle and moatSet in the heart of the English countryside, the Herstmonceux estate consists of 550 acres of rolling Sussex landscape, approximately 1.5 hours south of London, and half an hour east of Brighton. As well as being an International Study Centre, the castle’s gardens and grounds attract visitors from around the UK and the world. Visitors can take in the changing seasons from spring to late summer where snowdrops are replaced by daffodils, then bluebells, before tulips and our summer roses.

The grounds are also home to a staggering variety of flora and fauna with wild orchids, rare fungi and creatures such as lizards, woodpeckers, kingfishers, and deer. Nearer the castle and gardens you will often stroll past ducks, a heron that patrols the moat, our resident peacock, and of course Canada geese.

Various events take place throughout the year, including theatre productions, operatic performances, and antiques fairs. Students are welcome to buy tickets to these,  and where possible tickets are provided at a discounted rate, if not free.

Find out more by visiting the Herstmonceux Castle website where you can see the gallery, a list of upcoming events as well as a blog that explains the work that is going on within the gardens and grounds of Herstmonceux Castle.
